The forces of gravity
and age will eventually cause human tissue to sag, it
will happen to the face, and it will also happen to
breasts that have larger mass and weight. Most women
will eventually experience the increase and decrease
of breast size due to pregnancy, making breasts even
more prompt to sagging. If these situations are unavoidable,
how can you improve breasts that have already started
to sag?
Sagging breasts are influenced by many factors, such
as an improper pregnancy recovery, suddenly losing too
much weight, or naturally oversized breasts…etc. Anyone
with a cup size larger then a“B”will eventually face
the problem of their breast sagging later on in their
lifetime. Normally the degree of sagging is categorized
into 3 different groups, depending on the horizontal
distance between the nipple and the lower edge of the
chest:
First degree (slightly) sagging breasts:
If the positions of the nipples are low or facing down,
but still above the lower edge of the chest
Second degree (intermediate) sagging breasts:
If the positions of the nipples are almost at the same
level and 50% of the breast are below the lower edge
of the chest.
Third degree (severe) sagging breasts:
The nipples and the majority of the breasts are beneath
the lower edge of the chest.
You can look in a mirror and according to the simple
rules above determine if you already have sagging breasts.
As for treatments, it is not necessary to undergo corrective
surgery for slightly sagging breasts; their condition
can be maintained by doing exercises that work breast
muscles and wearing supportive bras. I am afraid intermediate
and severely sagging breasts can only get help from
corrective surgery. Currently there are several surgical
methods to correct these problems:
1. Breast Implant Surgery:
Sagging breasts can not only be improved by the support
of an implant, breast size can also be increased. This
is a very suitable treatment for slight saggy breasts
or for atrophic breasts caused by child bearing. The
majority of patients can achieve satisfying results
through this procedure.
2. Breast Lifting Surgery:
Breast lifting surgery must be performed to improve
breasts that are severely sagging. Depending on the
degree of sagging, the surgery methods will vary, but
most will leave a small visible scar on the breasts.
The periareolar incision (nipple incision), which is
the most accepted method among Asian woman, has less
scaring, and can at the same time reduce the size of
the areola. But this method cannot be used to treat
severely sagging breasts; therefore, it must be used
in combination with breast implants for the best results.
3. Breast Reduction and Lifting Surgery:
Breast reduction surgery and repositioning of the nipples
are necessary to lift breasts that are saggy due to
oversize to the desirable position. The surgery methods
depend on the reduction size, but scaring is generally
more visible. Most females will not use this surgery
method unless their breasts are large to a point that
it is unbearable.
Aside from the above mentioned surgical methods, currently
there are no non-surgical ways available to treat the
problem of sagging breasts. In the past there have been
trials where Thermage was used to lift breasts. However
the treatment results varied since each individual has
different breast weight, and different skin types. In
addition, if excess energy is applied, it may cause
calcification of the breasts,
so generally Thermage is not used as a treatment method.
There are also current methods still in the research
and experimental stages that will not be described here.
Regular maintenance is very important because breasts
like other body organs will show signs of aging. Staying
away from drinking, staying up nights, choosing proper
bras, exercising breast muscles, breast massages, external
skin care, and paying special attention to weight during
pregnancy and after breast feeding, can generally help
prevent sagging breasts. If your sagging breasts are
affecting your self confidence, maybe you should give
yourself the chance to feel young and beautiful again
by consulting with a physician!
