It is not necessary for a bunch of cosmetic surgeons or statistical figures to explain the differences in nose shape between women and men, from common sense, people can easily analyze what kind of male nose is most natural and appropriate. So what kind of nose shape will make men look more attractive?

Basically we will look at the nose from 4 parts, the nasion, the dorsum of the nose, the nose tip, and the nostrils; but the appearance of the male nose depends largely on the first 3 parts. According to one of my professors, a well known nose surgeon in Korea, Dr. Dongxue Cheng, statistics show that the ideal nasion of Eastern males should be slightly higher in position compared to the female nasion. It should start around the eyelashes of the top eyelid, that way it looks more 3-dimensional, and eyes will look deeper. The angle of the meeting point of the forehead and nose bridge must be slightly lower than the female nose, around 135 degrees, that way the nose will look higher. Also, the shape of the dorsum of the nose should be firm and straight, unlike the female nose which has curves in the middle, making it look softer. The sides of the nose from the corner of the eyes to the nostrils must be parallel and must be wider than female noses around 1 cm. As far as the nose tip goes, it has to be full and round, not too low, and it does not have to be pointy like female noses. This is also symbolic in Chinese physiognomy, representing the ability to gather fortune.

Since there are so many differences in the nose shape of men and women, how can a cosmetic surgeon create a real male nose, representing vigor, fortune, and sex capabilities? If we look really deeply into the market of artificial silicone nose bone shapes, we will discover that most of them are tailored for the use of females, which means a flat nasion, a thin dorsum of nose and a pointy nose tip; the only difference is the size and the length. If we are unable to find an artificial nose bone tailored for the use of men, surgeons can only modify current available materials, the end results will vary depending on each individual. In Korea, where there are a large amount of people getting nose jobs done, they have come up with an artificial nose bone designed from a male perspective. I have purposely taken the below picture to show the differences: the top picture is a standard nose, you can discover the shape has a flat top, the bottom is pointy, and the middle is lower, it is suitable for female use. The middle picture is a custom tailored for men“bird beak shaped nose bone,” not only is it longer in length, the dorsum of the nose is wider, even its shape looks more masculine, and it can fully expresses manliness. The third picture is a thicker nose bone, suitable also for male use.

Aside from the once piece artificial nose bone, the advanced biotechnological material Gortex is also suitable for the manufacturing of male noses. Gortex is a net like soft filling material, it can be cut and tailored to any desired thickness and shape, you could say it can be used to pad anywhere you like, it can even be shaped into a“Roman nose” without any difficulty. Of course it is suitable for shaping a very straight and masculine looking nose, and with time, body tissue will integrate with the Gortex net, allowing the appearance to look more natural and it will not be easily distorted. Of course, Gortex is not a flawless material, for example, it is more susceptible to infection, harder to remove later, and the material costs are much higher; therefore it is important to find an expert in Gortex surgery to perform the procedure.

The nose is the symbol of a 3-dimensional face, but not only are their differences in nose length and height for each individual, the same nose can have different images when seen from different angles; this is the main reason why it is difficult for surgeons to estimate the results of a nose job prior to surgery. I personally believe that surgeons must prepare all kinds of different nose bone shapes and materials that customers can choose from; in addition to that, careful surgery and modifications can allow both consumer and surgeon to be satisfied with the results. Surgeons who care more about the surgery outcomes than the actual customer, is a main trend that will eventually improve cosmetic surgery standards.

According to Chinese tradition, it believes for a man to have a straight and erect nose, represents having good sexual capabilities, and having a full nose, represents a lot of wealth. We do not want to discuss the accuracy of these statements; it just emphasizes the importance of a man’s nose to his appearance. Of course the main purpose of cosmetic surgery is still based on the need of the individual; saying to use cosmetic surgery to change your fortune is a little grave.
