Breast Reconstruction Surgery

1. I heard the breast reconstruction with tissue expansion requires the filling of the expander to be done every week. Will patients suffer pain and inconvenience from this surgery?

The one you mentioned is the concept of traditional tissue expansion, which requires 25~50cc saline filled into the expander every week. It is very troublesome as well as high risk of infection. We employed a newest technique that allows the tissue expander to be filled with a determined volume and well-round shape at a time. You don’t have to worry about both pain and inconvenience caused by filling the expander in stages. Furthermore, this technique which can reduces the risk of infection is a huge progress in medical science.

2. Will I have to pay another fee for the replacement of saline or silicone implant after three months?

Yes. The second stage procedure performed after three months is as same as regular breast augmentation. Depending on your demand, you can choose either to have an implant which is matched the size of your opposite breast or to undergo breast augmentation or breast lift for both sides of the breasts at a time. We certainly provide you a special offer for the second surgery. The detailed price will be determined according to the anesthesia and implant materials you apply.
This investment is actually very worth that you can rebuild the natural-looking breasts by the fee that only for regular breast augmentation.
3. What is nipple reconstruction? When can nipple reconstruction be carried out?

In general, nipple reconstruction can only be performed after replaced the permanent implants for one month. The surgeon removes partial nipple from the other side of the breast and implanting it to the affected breast. After the incision healing, tattooing the surrounding skin makes the nipple and areola more natural. Finally, the areola construction will be performed if it is necessary after the surgeon’s assessment. The whole procedures only take one month to carry out.
4. I have received free flap breast reconstruction surgery but I am not satisfied the shape of my breasts. Could I have a replacement or rectification surgery?

I don’t encourage patients who have received free flap transplantation to undergo any breast surgery or remove the tissue flap. After all, it is a part of your body as well as you have been suffered from the difficult and long procedure. If you were only not satisfied the size or shape of your breast, I would suggest you undergo an unilateral breast augmentation or reduction to accomplish an optimal result of symmetrical breasts. If you didn’t like some parts of the appearance, we could also provide you regional breast plastic surgery to improve it. Of course, the more detailed treatment plan will only be established after your consultation with our doctors.
5. When can breast reconstruction be carried out? Will it influence on follow-up monitoring for breast cancer?

There are two timing options for carrying out breast reconstruction. First one is immediate reconstruction at the time of mastectomy. This method must employ the autologous flap transplantation. It not only takes more time to perform the surgery, but also requires several more days staying in hospital. Second one is delayed reconstruction, which is done at any time you prefer after the mastectomy. You can choose either autologous tissue or tissue expander for the surgery. The breast reconstruction with tissue expansion our clinic currently provides only takes a short surgery time and patients can return to work immediately without any influences in daily lives.

Regards with the follow up monitoring for breast cancer you concerned, because of the majority of breast cancer recurrence may occur on the surrounding soft tissue instead of on the breast itself, you have to cooperate with your treated general surgeon. Generally, I would suggest patients receive the delayed reconstruction after follow-up monitoring breast cancer more than one year.
