1. Can breast augmentation be used to lift breasts? How does it differ from regular breast augmentation surgery?

Yes, breast augmentation has great results on patients with slight and average breast sag in combination with atrophy. The difference between this and regular breast augmentation is that during the breast lift, it is best if we make the incision in the lower mammary glands or around the areolas. The implant is placed beneath the mammary glands, not beneath the pectoral muscles like in regular breast augmentation surgery. The implant chosen will be slightly larger, with a coarser surface so that the breasts will be able to hold their shape in a short amount of time. Of course, a correctional bra must be worn for 3 to 6 months post-operation.

2. Is sagging caused by breasts which are too large? In that case, should I get breast reduction or breast lift surgery?

Large breasts are just one of many causes for breast sag. Normally, if you have breasts which sag and are only slightly or averagely oversized, I would recommend just breast lift surgery. If your breasts are overly large, then a breast reduction is required to solve this problem.
3. What type of sagging requires correction with breast implants, and what type requires breast lift surgery?

This is determined by how severe the sagging is. If breast sag is only slight or average (nipples are at or above breast or bottom edge of chest), this can be easily corrected with breast implants. However, if breast sag is severe or there is atrophy, breast lift surgery or a combination of both surgeries may be needed to reshape breasts. A professional doctor is able to evaluate which procedure will yield the best results.
