1. Will there be any sequela from taking rib cartilage? Can I still exercise after surgery?

No you can. Actually we just take out a little section of the rib cartilage, and leave rib membrane that helps circulation and is necessary for rib growth; we also leave part of the cartilage, so that the section removed has the opportunity to grow back. So taking the rib cartilage will not affect the strength of the ribs, and will not impact hobbies or sports you wish to pursue in the future. But during the process of cartilage removal, if the surgeon is not careful, he can easily pierce the rib membrane resulting in a slight case of Pneumothorax, so the surgeon must be careful in the rib removal process. Choosing a certified surgeon to perform the surgery is the best way to guarantee a safe surgery.

2. Can rib cartilage rhinoplasty last for a lifetime?

Basically the answer should be affirmative. Because new blood vessels will develop three months after removing the rib, and transplanting the rib into the nose, the blood circulation in the nasal area will nourish the cartilage and allow it to stably exist. The cartilage will remain in good conditions similar to other organs, and there will no longer be problems with self-absorption. Also because it is considered an autologous transplantation, it will almost never have the rejection or infection phenomenon of artificial implants, so it can exist in the body for a long period of time without being removed or exchanged.
3. Can cartilage from other body parts be used to replace the rib cartilage in rib cartilage rhinoplasty?

This depends on the amount of rib cartilage needed. If it is used simply to pad the nose tip, then taking the nose septum cartilage or even the ear cartilage will be enough for the surgery. But if the whole nose (nasal dorsum, nose tip) all require cartilage for reconstruction, then the cartilage in the above locations are not enough to form a 3 dimensional nose shape, at this time it requires rib cartilage to be used as the material for auto-rhinoplasty.
