1. Are there advancements in artificial nose bone materials? Will there be soreness or sensitivity after surgery?

Modern artificial nose bones have improved greatly, they are almost all soft silica with high stability, and are not easily rejected by body tissue. As for the after surgery soreness you mention, it is mostly caused by potential infection symptoms of the artificial nose bone, and sometimes rejection by the body. So when performing artificial nose bone rhinoplasty, the surgeon must pay attention to having a sterile surgery process.

2. My friend’s nose looks very fake after rhinoplasty; like a hard rod, is that because of the material?

This is an often encountered situation; partially because an unsuitable artificial nose bone was chosen. This causes the nose to look too long or have a too high philtrum; the nose looks similar to an “elephant nose,” or may even become an upturned nose. Another possibility is the bad shape of the artificial nose bone. The nose bones we use have a slightly wide nasal dorsum, so it has an ergonomic shape and people will not be able to discover the secret of your reconstructed nose.
3. If the nose is altered and looks too high, what if I do not like it? Can I ask for a re-alteration?

Although the nose is the symbol of the dimensions on a face, but it needs to be suitable. Think about it, if a round Asian face has a high arched foreign nose, will it look good? Thus, before surgery we will carefully measure the ratio of your nose and face, so your new nose looks just right. Usually it takes a period of adaptation after rhinoplasty. If you really do not like your new nose, we will provide three months alteration services with no surgery fee. You only need to pay for the new materials, but you only have one chance!
4. How come someone’s nose is fine right after rhinoplasty, but it becomes crooked or shifts after a while?

This situation usually is because during surgery, the space under the subcutaneous skin was not totally opened or opened unevenly when placing in artificial nose bone, or the nose bone was not placed in the correct position under the bone membrane. A little part may because of tissue rejection causing capsular contraction or unconscious squeezing after surgery. If the situation of shifting really occurs, you may need to consider performing readjustment surgery…
5. Can I touch or blow my nose after rhinoplasty? Will it become crooked?

5-7 days after surgery, we usually require the customer to wear a nose cast or to secure the nose with bandages. After a week the nose tissue is completely fixed, after two weeks the nose will rarely shift because of outer force. Of course if you are still worried, we will recommend you to choose the use of tissue glue. During the surgery it can secure the skin tissue to the nose bone, and shorten the recovery period.
6. What do I do if my nose becomes infected after surgery?

As long as it is artificial material, then there is a chance of infection. We can only try to lower the chance of it occurring. If infection is discovered after surgery, we will give a 10-14 day antibiotic treatment. If there is still no improvement, we can only remove the artificial nose bone, and consider surgery again after a 3 month recovery period.
7. What kind of person is not suitable for artificial nose bone rhinoplasty?

I think if in the past three months you have had inflammatory frontal sinus or sinusitis, continuous nose allergies, or have received rhinoplasty in the past three months and had infections, you need to first treat the potential problems before receiving rhinoplasty. If you have the problems above, you should inform the doctor voluntarily, and let him decide if the surgery can be performed. If you are worried about the artificial bone being infected, don’t forget there is also autologous cartilage that can be used.
8. If I want my nose longer, or to have less obvious nostrils, will just attaching an artificial nose bone do the trick?

Usually the reason for an upturned nose is because the bad positioning of the lower nose cartilage or nose cartilage that is too short. If the cartilage needs to be adjusted, then open rhinoplasty is required; taking and adjusting the cartilage in the nose or even transplanting cartilage. If we just simply insert an artificial bone, it not only might not solve the problem, the nose may be even more upturned after surgery.
9. I heard that using Gortex for rhinoplasty is very expensive, what are the advantages?

Currently, Gortex has been widely used as body replacement materials. Because it has high biological compatibility and stability, it can connect with body tissue without rejection. The costs are around three times the price of artificial silica nose bone. The pros are it is easily shaped, it looks natural, and it is not easily felt when touched. As for the cons, it is not easy to remove, and causes a lot of trouble if it needs to be removed because of wound infection.
10. Can cosmetic surgery be used to improve nostrils that are too large?

The doctor will first evaluate the reason your nostrils are large. If you have an upturned nose, you should accept open rhinoplasty combined with cartilage transplant for adjustments. If your nostrils are outturning, then you need nostril reduction surgery. If your nose wings and nostrils are too large combined, then you need to remove the nose wing cartilage to have good results. Anyhow, the nose is a three dimensional reconstruction, a professional doctor will give you the best treatment advice.
