Chin Implant Surgery

1. How do I choose what type of material to use for genioplasty?

This is determined by the original conditions of your chin; if the conditions of your chin are not too bad, and just recedes slightly, using a silica chin implant can achieve good effects. But a silica chin implant cannot be secured from the inside, so you must use surgical tape to secure it from the outside for a week to prevent it from shifting, which is not as convenient. The artificial bone is suitable for obvious chin receding or an overly small chin, or patients with a naturally small jaw can avoid the unnatural look that may result from a too thick silica chin implant. It is more convenient because it is stable and secure, you can talk and chew the second day after surgery.

2. I am currently still having my teeth adjusted, can I still get genioplasty?

Adult orthodontic work does not change the position of the chin greatly, so after half a year of treatment, you can be evaluated for genioplasty. But because there are many methods of orthodontic treatment, it is still better to get the opinion of your orthodontist first and then decide.
3. I have problems with malocclusions, can I get genioplasty?

Genioplasty is a cosmetic surgery; the main point is changing the appearance, and has nothing to do with malocclusions. But if you have malocclusions, maybe you should consider cosmetic surgery after you have treated your malocclusions. Also, some problems with malocclusions have problems with a receding chin. If the misplacement of your teeth is serious to the point that it cannot be corrected with orthodontics; then maybe you should consider orthognathic surgery. The surgeons can also augment your chin at the same time to get the best results. Dr. Hsieh in our clinic is an orthognathic specialist, and according to your situation; we can refer you to him to evaluate the malocclusions.
