1. Are the risks high for top and bottom combined bone shaving surgery?

For a surgeon who has performed many bone shaving surgeries, the top and bottom combined bone shaving surgery has the same surgical process as single area bone shaving; the only difference is the length of the surgery time. The amount of bleeding is also limited, so this factor should not increase the risk. Because the anesthetic time is longer for combined bone shaving, in order to guarantee the safety of the anesthetics, many preoperative examinations should be made before surgery to ensure the health conditions of the patient’s body, so surgery can be performed without worries.

2. Will top and bottom combined bone shaving surgery cause the skin of the cheeks to sag or loosen?

The answer to this question can only be predicted after evaluating individual skin characteristic because the area of skin that peeled up is larger for combined bone shaving. So if the patient is of older age or has saggy cheeks, then the chances of looseness after surgery will be higher than for younger aged patients. Basically this is saying that the younger you are when you have bone shaving surgery, the faster and better you will recover. Our clinic will give our patients a head cover which must be worn 1-2 months after surgery; this head cover will not only help reduce the swelling but helps prevent sagging cheeks.
3. My face is not wide, but I would like to have the effects of a “melon seed” face, do I have to have bone shaving surgery?

A good facial structure has a certain ratio. From the front, this ratio is decided by the bottom of the cheek bones, the bottom jaw bones, and the bottom of the chin. If the width of the face matches the length of the face, you have ideal facial structure. If the width of the face is longer than the length of the face, then you can use bone shaving to reduce the cheek bones or jaw bones, and allow your face to look longer visually. If the length of your face is shorter than its width, maybe cushioning the chin can solve your problems. These evaluations can only be decided after a professional doctor has seen your face.
