Correction of chest deformity
Chest deformity, often found among women,
includes pectus carnatum (known as pigeon
chest), pectus excavatum (known as funnel
chest) and asymmetrical chest. The main
reason caused chest deformity is the
congenital defect between the lower
sternum under breasts and ribs. Most
of people with serious chest deformity
have to receive a skeleton correction
surgery in infants in order to facilitate
the development of heart and lung function.
On the other hand, people who undergo
a correction surgery after grow-up usually
have slight or mild chest deformity.
Their main goal is either to beautify
the chest shape or conceal the drawback.
The patients who suffer pigeon chest
or funnel chest usually accompany with
undergrowth of their breasts. We utilize
breast augmentation to correct the appearance
of chest that allows patients have a
similar outer appearance to normal breasts
and the defect becomes invisible to
others.
Pigeon chest and funnel chest are corrected
mainly by a breast augmentation. This
procedure is usually similar to regular
breast augmentation surgery. However,
patients with pigeon chest or funnel
chest usually have extremely thin skin
and breast tissue, the best placement
of implant would be considered under
the pectoralis major muscle. In addition,
the surgeon must carefully cope with
the central protrusion or depression
near sternum in order to create natural-looking
breasts. The breast augmentation, corrects
the deformity of asymmetrical chest,
can be performed by utilizing the different
shape or volume of implants. The surgeon
employs simulated expanders to rigorously
measure and locate the symmetry of the
two breasts during operation could accomplish
satisfactory results.
