Nasolabial Sulcus Fill in Treatment

Nasolabial sulcus is located on the two sides of the outer root section of the nose wing. The view of its exterior appearance is an inverted triangle with a dent. Due to the face shape of Eastern people, more or less, everyone has the existence of this shadow. However, if this dent continues to extend to beneath of the corner of the mouth, then it will become what is known as nasolabial fold. As a result, it can also be said that the nasolabial sulcus is the starting point of nasolabial fold Therefore, if the area of the nasolabial sulcus can be filled up, then nasolabial fold will in turn be relatively improved.

The increase in depth of the nasolabial fold is due to ageing and the sagging of the cheek. But the appearance of the nasolabial sulcus is due to congenital dent in the connection area of the zygoma and maxilla. Therefore, there are many young people with very deep nasolabial sulcus, especially those groups with a flat face shape, high zygoma or protruding maxilla, is very common. If wanting to thoroughly correct this problem why not use rectification surgery to get this problem over and done with forever, as the results is short and the cost is high for rectification when using hyaluronic acid to fill up the dent.

Surgery on the nasolabial sulcus belongs to one of the face filling surgeries. It is the use of artificial fillings to fill the intersection area of the zygoma and maxilla. Currently the materials we can choose include silicon gel cartilage, Goretex, or Medpor. Among them, the last two materials are the more suitable materials as they do not easily mobilize due to long term use.

Surgery can be performed with intravenous sedation. Firstly an incision of approximately 1.5 cm is made on the upper mucous outside the mouth cavity. After performing separation of the lower periosteum, insert the sculptured Medpor into the site of bone intersection. After confirming that the position is correct, apply bone nails to fix it into position. Then stitch up the incision and the surgery is completed.
