Position of the chin and teeth occlusion
is closely related to each other. If
you belong to the group, which have
a protruding chin or receding chin due
to improper occlusion of the teeth,
we recommend seeing the dentist first
to fix the occlusion problem.
If your teeth occlude properly and it
is certain that the problem is caused
due to over development of the chin
bond (commonly referred as “galoche
chin”) or underdevelopment of the chin
bone (Micrognathia, commonly referred
as “bird’s beak”), then certainly we
are able to help you to fix the problem
concerning facial aesthetic.
For patients with
a protruding chin, a 5cm incision is
made at 1cm near alveolus to avoid the
nerves of the alveolus. After separating
apart the soft tissues near the chin
bone and the muscles, use a special
instrument to saw the protruded bone
then tip the bone backward by pushing
it. Finally, use a steel plate or steel
wire to fix it in position and the surgery
is completed.
There are two choices
for curing Micrognathia, one is the
same surgery method as curing protruded
chin, where we just tip forward the
chin bone, which has been sawed and
fix it in position. The other method
is to use a soft artificial silicon
chin bone, which has many different
sizes and shapes for surgeons to choose
from. All we need to do is insert this
type of artificial chin bone after partially
separating the soft tissues of the chin.
The advantages of this surgery are that
it has a short surgery length and recovery
time. The disadvantages are that the
possibility of problems such as infection
or relocation occurring is the same
as other insertion of artificial materials.
We will suggest you the best recommendation
regarding to which surgery suits or
required by you during the consultation.
