The nearly 90 percent of the major cause
of long face shape can be blamed on
the excessively extended low face (the
distance below nose and above chin,
which is the vertical distance between
maxilla and mandible). Usually, it can
cause the problem including over exposure
of the gum when smiling, upper and lower
lips may be excessively opened when
in relaxed condition (usually if it
is over 4mm then great strength must
be used in order to tightly close the
lips) or has an anterior open bite.
The treatment plan generally includes
rising the maxilla to reduce the length
of maxilla or to collocate with the
surgery of moving mandible forward or
backward or the chin plastic to improve
the overall face shape. |
