In
accordance to the advancement
of today’s biomedical technology,
there are more types of implant
materials to choose from for transforming
face shape. The major responsibility
of the doctor is to understand
different characteristics of each
different material and fit it
in the appropriate location. Concurrence
to the current materials for transforming
faces; there are three main types:
1. Silicon implant
This is the most perpetual artificial
material. Its products are very
diverse, for example, other than
the most commonly seen artificial
nasal bone and chinbone, there
are also artificial zyogoma, frontal
bone, mandible to choose from.
Its advantages are that it is
easy to install, has various sizes
and a lower price. The disadvantages
are its uneasiness in fixation,
possibility of relocation in the
future and poor resistance to
infection.
2.
Goretex
Goretex is not only applied
in various daily products but
is also largely employed on
cosmetic plastic surgeries.
Originally, it is a white piece
of tissue which surgeons can
cut and construct according
to the patient’s condition.
It is only suitable for usage
in simple fillings where molding
is not a necessity on shaping
the body part, for example,
the area of nasal dorsum. Other
advantages are its high modibility,
completely compatible with the
tissues and not easily displaced.
Yet, its disadvantages are that
it is impossible to accomplish
the modibility goal by simply
using this material, the fee
is more expensive and uneasy
to take out in the future.
3. Medpor
Recently, Medpor has gradually
been applied in various cosmetic
surgeries by cosmetic surgeons.
The material of Medpor is very
similar to bone matrix that
has firm texture. In addition,
like the silicon implants, it
has various sizes and shapes
to choose from, for example,
chin bone, zygoma, maxilla or
mandible and etc. Its range
of applications is very board
as well. Further more, as its
design is based on the alignment
of the human skeleton, therefore
the look will be very natural
when it is implanted. However,
the disadvantages are that the
fee is more expensive, requires
fixation by bone nail, compulsory
general anesthesia and its ability
to mold is lower than the previous
materials mentioned above.
From above
explanation we can conclude
that the different types of
artificial materials are suited
to which facial part in facial
transformation.
1. Silicon implants: nose, chin,
zygoma, frontal bone, mandible
2. Gortex: nose, eye brow bone,
nasolabial sulcus (nasolabial
folds)
3. Medpor: chin, zygoma, nasolabial
sulcus, mandible
How to flexibly
apply and interconnect these
materials is the critical point
in influencing the successfulness
of this complex facial surgery.
Apropos of the surgery method,
it is similar to each single
surgery except it has a longer
recovery period than the single
surgery. |
